Wall-Bound Fly

by ·

1/29/2025
I cry and I lie
And I deseparately try
To be something more
Than a wall-bound fly
Watching a scene
Playing nearby
One I’ve seen
A million times

I sigh
You lie
You prod and pry
Bend and ply
All to evoke
That look in their eye
That look of defeat
Stare at their feet
There is no hope
For them to greet
I try to meet
Their stare
Their gaze
All I find
Is immovable haze
No room for praise
Just sullen malaise
Every failure
On replay

Back to you
She who knew
Exactly what
Those words would do
In lieu of kindness
A sword you drew
Helpless, blue
A hopeless milieu
I'll never know
Why you would do
The things you would do
To my me and my brother
You were our mother
Supposed to be our mother
A role you chose
To never fill / But never filled

Then years went by
You fell ill
Refused to see us
Even still
Cancer stole
Any chance
To close or console
Left un-whole
Just a gaping void
In my soul
Now I see
A memory
Cloudy skies
Darkening seas
From afar I see
The same damn things
You did to me

Fairness was something
Foreign to me
I didn't believe
I deserved reprieve
To be loved or seen
Your latest victim
A vivid dream
Where you chide, taunt
Still you haunt
From the grave
Power you flaunt
I now see
I'll never be free
While a wall-fly
I may be
I pray you have it
Better than me
