This Manic Love

I thrive on the euphoric sleeplessness
Drink it in, the way others consume coffee in the morning
I wind up, spinning, like a helicopter leaf taken by the breeze
Never landing on the ground
My ideas grow lovely wings
Whimsically impractical
And nothing else matters
And no one else matters

Except sustainability should
Because sleeplessness leads to madness

And the ideas born of madness have wings of their own that are not always lovely

They leave you to fly places they should not, and when they return, they carry the seeds of foreign malaise

Of diseases against which you have no defenses
And maybe you can handle them as they intertwine with your DNA
Maybe you can turn into someone maddeningly beautiful
Maybe you can embrace these wings and let them carry you beyond
Or maybe you cannot,
And maybe you should not.
