muddled, befuddled, but never subtle
i walk the line beside a puddle
hoping i don't trip & tumble
that would put me in big trouble
so i try & walk straight, arms out wide
my gaze focused on that white line
left then right: suspended in time
i'd likely do better if i was blind
but i try & i try to no avail
you look at my face; i've gone pale
i look back at yours, it tells a somber tale
read me my rights, take me off to jail
i now rot in a 6-by-10 cell
my only solace is the dinner bell
if you asked me why, i'd never tell
instead you should have dragged me to hell
all night long i cry & i weep
sludge from my toilet: upward seeps
devilish thoughts through my mind they creep
my neighbors howling drifts me to sleep
if the sun rises on a brand new day
what will go, what will stay
no, nothing changes, it's all the same
living out my days in endless shame
all of this by one decision made
my way out lies at the edge of this blade
too long on this rock, i have stayed
it ends tonight if i get my way
for your forgiveness i desperately pray
