It starts out slow
like so many before.
With a steady beat,
a subtle allure.
One by one,
instruments append,
begging the monotony to end.
When out of the blue,
a mischievous chord,
demanding attention;
A dissonance I abhor.
Bar after bar
time suspends.
My God! When will it end?
Dancing on eardrums:
A hammer in my mind;
The pounding resounding,
an ominous sign.
Pluck by pluck,
vibrations extend.
This Hell shall never end.
The briefest rest
creates a void;
The imminent closure
is mockingly coy.
(With) A harrowing reprise,
An insufferable decent:
to the impossibly distant end.
