Let Me Out

by ·

2/27/2023
I beg and I shout to please let me out
Caged, not assuaged, pain so stout
Chained, floor blood-stained, you tout
Ignorance, indifference, reasons without

But here I am and there you are
Quietly sitting, other side of the bars
Unknowingly draining the blood from my heart
Foot on my throat, not inches apart

Choking, breathless, unable to talk
My legs: fettered, unable to walk
my eyes glazed open, gaze at the clock
As I watch the hands neither tick nor tick

No chance of ever getting back
Utter nescience, compassion you lack
These chains, like you, give no slack
Time’s run out, I fade to black
