Lens of Anger

by ·

3/4/2023
a lens of anger
covers my eyes
creates a veil of irritation
I shouldn't see things this way
but my eyes are glued open
hands tied... it's all I can observe
to shatter the lens, lift the veil
would allow a more understanding truth
to be revealed; but for now, this is
my truth; do I continue allowing
the narrative to be constructed for me
or do I break free from the ties
which bind my wrists, flip the lens
to view what is, not the skewed vantage I now see
even then, would the anger, the ire, melt away
maybe it isn't the lens at all
but my own resentment
which casts this picture I see; maybe the lighting
the mood is all wrong, the lens is merely
a self-imposed perception nothing more
maybe a new frame of reference is all I need
all I need to regain the humanity of tenderness and care
my love has never waned
I simply yearn for the selfishness to cease
so that I can return to your side
to remind you I'll always be here
It's not about changing the lens
but changing the eyes of the observer
the temperament, the desire to be
the person I know I can be
the person I will be.
