Waiting for the sun to drop
I hold my breath until time stops
It lingers over mountaintops
The second hand won’t tick nor tock
The sky on fire, glitter and gold
While each ray of light scorches and scolds
My ego: ablaze; too hot to hold
The end is near as the scripture foretold
But then clouds blow in and I fall to my knees
The sanctity of shade; the promise of eve
By the will of He who never leaves
Hope for sinners, saints, and thieves
Embers torch the ground beneath
I close my eyes and refuse to see
This mockery of mercy, a ruse of reprieve
A fallacy is all I’ll ever believe
