What’s to gain
By going against the grain
Is it fame
Or shame
Or more of the same
Maybe the confidence not to be plain
Doing deeds a little insane
Playing by the rules of the game
So that you are never to blame
Has rarely encouraged positive change
Now when someone asks you to be tame
Or lame
To protect your name
Don’t restrain
Look at them with a little disdain
You don’t have to be vain
To not allow self-worth to wane
Complacency, conformity is the very bane
Of this empowered claim
Of why I came
Erase the stain
That brings you pain
Break the chain
Free the brain
Being you is what keeps you sane
