When words don’t come, write anyway
They may not ebb and flow
They may not make sense or rhyme or whatever
They certainly may not employ the narrative arc you’re seeking
But they are words nonetheless
And words matter
Words—all words—carry meaning
We may not always know what that meaning is
But it’s always there
Maybe not in the individual letters that construct the words
Maybe not in the words that form phrases
Maybe it’s in the intention and interpretation
Between the seemingly nonsensical phrases
And scribbled lines on the page
And maybe that’s good enough
Someone out there may stumble across these words
And they may resonate deeply
So while they may not mean anything to you
They may mean the world to a waiting reader
Why starve the world of your creative thought?
Who are you to judge the merit of the pen strokes?
Let your words roam free and run wild
So, when all you can muster are jumbled thoughts
Let those thoughts come out
There is no trial and error, only trial
Don’t erase... use a pen
Don't crumple up that paper, store it away for another day
It may not fit into a story now, but it serves a greater purpose
And that purpose isn’t always clear at the moment
And maybe it doesn’t become clear for some time, and that’s okay
When the words don't come, write anyway
