Twice Befallen (3)

by ·

1/7/2020
What no more has twice befallen
On the narrow of the hill
Of the springtime has the pollen
Settled ‘pon my window sill

Winds race past the shutters shaking
Shielding from the breeze that blows
All the while the oven's baking
We sway with the music: to and fro

What no more has twice befallen
On the narrow of the hill
Lilacs stand in fields of sprawling
Bending to god's radiant will

Scents of aromatic flowers
Leavened bread: freshly sweet
Far from all that renders dour
Life anew is here to greet

What no more has twice befallen
On the narrow of the hill
Hear the songbird: hear her calling
Singing of the stoic still

Near the day has come to closing
The sun lies on the horizon's line
Somewhere out there trees are dozing
Dreaming is the sleepy pine
