The Hidden Truth

by ·

11/2/2015
I see the truth behind that smile.
You can't fool me with your masterful guile.
The rest of the world may fall for your tricks—
In my eyes, the truth you defile.

Confide in me—it's all for show:
Scrub away that painted-on glow.
It isn't weakness to express how you feel;
To be free is to be real.

I can feel the pain behind your eyes—
a window exposed, let's me into your lies.
"Don't worry," you say, "everything's fine."
I peer in the mirror, and cut another line.
