Reckless Safety

by ·

To be reckless
Is to flirt with the line
The thinnest veil
Between right and wrong
A recurring dream
Looping through my subconscious—
By day and by night

You are the shadow
I can’t seem to shake

Never could I
Forget this dream
This shadow, unbidden—
Right on my heels
You speak to me
In quiet tongues
Promising the sanctity
Of once-dangerous safety

This dream—you—
lives deep in my psyche
In a cherished place
Which is starting to feel
Like home
