Race-Car Mind

by ·

11/7/2016
Stop. Stop. I beg you to stop!
The torment: too much to withstand.
My mind is madness, speeding along,
     dreaming of all things grand.

But unable to attain the speed I need
to make these dreams come true.
My body falls behind my race-car mind;
     Dragged along, bloody and blue.

To slow my mind, for my body to catch-up,
     isn't that easy a chore.
With a mind of its own, my mind speeds right along,
     craving speed evermore.

I beg. I plead. I need you to stop.
My wiring, you tear and you shred.
Without mercy you race to the finish,
     reaping havoc throughout my head.

Will you ever stop? Will I ever sleep?
Been up for three long days.
No way to win: to quiet the madness.
     Stuck in this manic craze.
