Putrid

by ·

1/21/2016
A putrid fog descends
upon a million lost souls—
Toiling away—climbing a ladder
which leads nowhere.

Their will refuses to bend
as they ascend ever higher;
Chasing a dream—fabled
about for generations.

They smile with all their friends—
Everyone plays along, while
true happiness rots away
in the deepest part of their being.

Liars! They all pretend.
Happiness measured by the conviction
of their ruthless denial—
Ignoring the foul stench of decay.
