we spend our lives sowing seeds of ambition
we hope to sprout into a vast forest
of everlasting success. we tend our seedlings
carefully, diligently, and when our own
seedlings grow into mighty trees, we stand
back, admiring that which we created,
forgetting that each leaf of success will fall
and die when autumn arrives
and what's more, the very tree to which
you so carefully tended may be cut down
to build the house of someone else's dreams.
and one day, that house will be no more
and the wood from your tree will return to
the earth, enriching the land for another
seed to grow and flourish in a forest of
everlasting success
