Peace in This

by ·

6/2/2024
Don’t give up on me
Turn this anxiety
Into something helpful
Not harmful
Show me the way
Help me stay
Here, now
You know just how
Help me see
The things I can’t see
Help me be
A better version of me
Muscles tense
Jaw clenched
Impatiently waiting
For what comes next
Allow what will be
Just to be
And please help me
Find peace in this
Doesn’t need to be bliss
Just peace in this
All I need
Is space to be
Room to breathe
A picture to see
To remind me
That this is real
You didn’t steal
Or deal
Not stuck in a wheel
Endlessly spinning
Never winning
Anxiety does that
Lying flat
I can’t breathe
Sit on my back
My brain is racked
Sacked
An inward attack
Thoughts spiral
Doubts are viral
Down I go
I don’t know
How deep it goes
Drowning those
Naked, exposed
‘Til you reach into
My face turns blue
I’m gone
So long
But you refuse
To let me sink
To let me lose
I didn’t think
Anyone would choose
To save me
Poor old me
When they could be
Literally anywhere
Other than here
I’ve grown with fear
Held on too dear
To a fantasy, a tragedy
My song unsung
Nothing to hear
You’ve made it clear
For reasons unknown
You’ve shown me
Grace and love
Your hand from above
Saved me from drowning
Gave me a shove
In the direction
Refused deflection
You showed me affection
Where I needed to be
I objected
How could you know
What I needed most
How could you know
That I was this close
To ending it all
You answered my call
I never rang
Yet still you came
No one to blame
An endless refrain
Erase my name
Yet still you came
My life was spent
Without repent
Every cent
Came and went
Nearly broken
Cracked and bent
I won’t pretend
I deserved
To be saved
All you gave
You, my friend
Were heaven sent
Now let me be
That somebody
If you ever need
Call on me
I’ll be there
With love and care
The way you were for me
