Loose Stitching

by ·

11/15/2015
Severed
by the anxiety of separation;
Loosely stitched
back together with a blunt needlepoint.

Seductively whispering
false promises of normalcy.
As blood spurts
from every gaping blemish;
A taunting reminder
of the unattainable.

Wounds heal—
memories fade with time.
But scars remain:
telling stories of the anguish.

Nightmares
haunt me—day and night.
Phantom pain
returns me to that place.

Frantically searching
for open sutures;
Suddenly awakened
to blood-soaked sheets
Flesh wounds
I cannot find.
