Lies

Lies have a way of finding you at your most vulnerable moments. The smile you charade is such a pretty display until the lies kick your teeth in. Broken jaw & a bloody lip, you still pretend as if nothing is wrong. You can't show that it hurts. You're afraid to let down your guard: your armored exterior. But the blood seeps down your throat into your lungs, choking on the very lies that kept you upright when everything else around you was crashing, when you refused to kneel down to pick up the pieces of the shattered truth. Those same lies you used as a shield are also the spear that cut through your skin... from within. If only you set down your shield, the spear, for just a moment to breathe, to see that the very lies you use to protect yourself are preventing you from living life at all. Then, maybe, you could uncover your eyes and dare to witness the truth; no matter how painful, it is real. And though it may hurt, you can ask for help, not from a place of weakness but of humility. The truth is, we all need help. I need help. And while the lies give us a short term high, they will not last. And when they crumble, you will be left to face the truth. Put down your shield, your spear, and come. I am here for you.
