water leaks from the roof above
it has been for some time now
but you can't seem to fix it
no matter how hard you try
so you learn to live with the leaking
at first, you can hide it with patches of new drywall
but soon enough, that leaks through, too
your friends start to notice
but you just smile & put a bucket under the leak
catching the water, for now
as the leak grows heavier, you start canceling plans
you need to stay home and keep emptying the bucket
so it doesn't overflow
then the inevitable happens
water starts flooding your house
the house you worked so hard to build
and just like that, it's ruined
you now spend all your time treading water
friends stop asking about you, or if they do
you don't, can't, answer; your life is on the line
you're embarrassed, ashamed, tired
asking for help seems unfathomable & selfish
why should anyone else clean up *my *mess?
you say you're not worth it; but you can't do it alone
so you scream for help, but you're now underwater
where sound can't travel to willing ears
who's listening anyway? you've pushed everyone away
but people are there, waiting to help you
all you need to do is swim over & open the front door
let them in, let them help you drain the water
let them help you reconstruct the damaged parts
they aren't looking for payment in return
they truly and honestly care about you
and would do anything to help you carry your burden
because they don't see you as a burden
they see you for who you are, a friend, a loved one
who would do the same for them in their time of need
Leaky Roof
