I need to escape
From this jagged life
The one that pins me
To the floor
Sharp edges tear open
Wounds I once thought closed
Exposing raw nerves
And dangerous thoughts
Better left in the dark
I crave loneliness, respite
From this place
I don’t belong
A place I once called home
To be isolated, free
On a far away island
Where I can bleed in peace
Without judgement
Or the quiet terror
Of staining your carpet
How do I see through
The heavy fog of inadequacy
No clear direction to go
My fettered legs can’t support
The weight of the next decision
My rational mind and physical body
Are strangers now: miles apart
Hands holding a map
Soaked in blood
Ink covered, lines blurred
Landmarks I once recognized
Dissolve in the red
Until I’m stranded in this foreign land
I am a fragmented collection
Of my past life
Existing only in memories
Of what will never again be mine
