How am I?

How am I supposed to take a single step
     when there is no ground beneath my feet?
How am I supposed to take a single bite
     when I haven't any teeth?
How am I supposed to take a breath
     when my lungs are full of air?
How am I supposed to sing a happy song
     when I'm stuck in this pit of despair?
