Frayed

by ·

3/23/2024
I desperately long
For my heart to belong
Someplace it never will

I ache and protest
But a futile behest
Leaves me cold, yet still

I kneel and pray
That maybe one day
My heart will be tenderly held

But now is not then
Please not "if" but "when"
A breath of life will be felt

But today, all alone
My heart resting on stone
Is frigid as is my gaze

I ask how much more
A man can endure
Before he begins to fray

Unraveled to threads
Each strand portends
An outcome: lifeless and dark

Strewn on the ground
To never be found
As my ego falls apart
