For My Son

by ·

7/4/2023
It’s hard to believe a year has gone by
Since we were blessed with you in our lives
My precious boy, there aren’t enough hues
To paint all the ways that I love you

The smile you smile, the light you bring
It’s perfect in every single way
The way you giggle, the song you sing
Every note, every babble, every day

Of course there are times which challenge and try
But know I’ll always be by your side
Even if it seems anger won’t stave
I love you so deeply, you’ll always be safe

I may not be perfect; I know I’m not
One thing will never change
Life isn’t easy, with trials it’s fraught
But how much I care never wanes

Someday you may have a son of your own
And maybe you’ll write him a similar poem
And I pray you're there the way that he needs
In a way that loves, nurtures, and feeds

Share your presence, that's what he needs most
Just do the best you can
It's in little moments that memories grow
Marvel in simplicity's span

But today you're only one year old
Soon, my son, you'll be grown
When you question how much of this is true
I mean when I say I'll always love you
