Falsity Leads

by ·

3/12/2020
I'm sad, I'm worried
I don't know why
the sun is covered
by clouds in the sky
I look up and feel
they're ready to cry
"me too," I say
"you and I
have a lot in common:
a steely outside
but deep within
we hold a sigh
so nobody notices
the rage inside
ready to blow
far and wide"

showing only
what we want them to see
they'll never know
how much we
hold inside
trying to breathe
without disturbing
the unknowing peace
surrounding those
you and me
show stoicism, calm
joy and glee
while happiness
is but a reverie
where will all
this falsity lead?
but thunderous storms
to be unleashed

I toss and turn
unable to sleep
danger looms
thoughts creep
in patience must I
slowly steep
if I am
my life to keep
else I risk
a fatal leap
into the unknown
into the deep
even with my
arms not weak
I know I can swim
but I choose to sink
