Empty Apology

by ·

10/20/2016
"I'm sorry"
you utter again;
An empty apology is all I hear.
It slips through your lips
As easily as a passing breath.
What I hear is the roar
Of insincerity—bellowing
From your lungs.

Obliged you may feel.
But don't offend me
With your disingenuous prose.
If you really meant it—
You'd mean it.
I would see it in your eyes,
Rather than the hollowness
You now expose.

Your utter indifference
Says more to me:
More than any words
You could speak.
I see who you really are
Before you ever disrespect me
With your sour apathy.

What you will never know,
Is that I know the truth:
Your truth. Your loose "apology"
Is nothing more
Than the projection
Of your own insecurity.
And for that,
"I'm sorry"
