Don't Write the Narrative

I've stopped trying
to dictate my future
to create it before
it even occurs
the only thing
I know for certain
is that nothing
is certain
and I'm making peace
with that
when I get there
if I get there
I'll take a look around
and see what
there is to see
I'll be what
I can be
and that
will be enough
(I will be enough)
I will listen
more than I speak
ask more
than I tell
I'll be a servant
and a leader
if that's what
is meant to be
but I won't try
and write
the narrative
of my future
I choose to
live the story
first
and trust
that what will be
is meant to be
