Destiny

my body sits here
while my mind is there
looking upon this empty vessel
with sadness & disdain
an abandoned ship
lost at sea
her captain drowned himself
when pirates closed in
pirates who wanted nothing more
than to loot, kill, and flee
leaving behind a lifeless carcass
of wood in the wind
lon'ely floating until she
splinters in wreckage
on the nearest rocky shoreline
her fate (was) determined
before she even left the dock
yet she sailed anyway
her destiny in the waters below
