Conversing with the Breeze

by ·

4/17/2023
on this porch I patiently sit
waiting, conversing with the breeze
trading pleasantries without really speaking
she is a casual acquaintance: the breeze
we've occupied the same space for years
but barely know each other's name
you pass, I wave, you wave back
one day I hope you stop by
and sit for a while

the breeze passes
the sun pokes through
a sliver of hope in the clouds
a single ray meant just for me
kissing my face for the briefest of moments
by the time I notice it's radiant warmth, it's gone
closed up behind a grey sheet of secrecy

The breeze, our nascent friendship
Our budding romance
Picks up once more
Will you stay this time and chat
Or will you float past without even a friendly wave
