Blood-Orange Night

by ·

7/11/2018
A blood-orange halo encircles a field of white
Under the black of a moonless night
Echoing my ever-present plight
Encased in deadly light

Round and round we play this game
nothing changes; going insane
A blood-orange voice growls my name
He knows we are the same

In my slumber I hear him speak
He murmurs something bitterly oblique
I see his blood-orange eyes, they peek
My will is sourly meek

He leaves for now but will return
For a day without his deceit, I yearn
My blood-orange ego begs, bleeds, burns
A feeling I can't discern

My desperation climbs a blood-orange tower
Ready to jump, my outlook dour
At the edge, my final hour
I refuse to cower

Leaping, floating, in peaceful despair
Gliding, flying through blood-orange air
I close my eyes, I call his dare
My ending, pending, is prepared
I open my eyes unscared
