Beyond These Four Walls

by ·

How do I move beyond
These four walls
That have kept me safe—
Provided space to breathe
And a place to call home
In a stillness
I’ve mistaken for peace?

What life will I leave behind
If I choose to explore the horizon?
Charting new openings
Invites a sudden gust
To fill my sails
With salt
And the uncertainty
Of the unknown

Am I lifting anchor
And drifting beyond?
Or am I hunting a feeling—
A guiding star
Swallowed by the full moon—
Only to find my journey
Replaced by the hollow
Of a solemn return home
