Behind the Porcelain Smile

by ·

Beneath a sheet of tinted glass
Behind a film of what's unsaid
Rest words that beg to see the light
But instead are submerged under the weight of insecurity
Left in the dark, begging to be spoken
To be heard by the ears of anyone listening
Yet when the words bubble to the surface
They are empty—naked as the day we met
Totally void of sound or sense
So I hide them once more—beneath the tinted glass
Masked by a porcelain smile
Painted atop a depth of sorrow and regret
Where they live out their days unnoticed, silent, forgotten
