Autumn Breeze Turns

by ·

11/9/2016
The autumn breeze turns
To a winter chill.
The first snowflake descends
Upon the fallen leaves,
Warning of winter's chilly emergence.

We sit blissfully by a newly stoked fire,
Sipping coffee and talking about nothing.
The snow thickens
Right outside the window
As the sun dips below the horizon.

The next morning,
Retrieving my morning paper,
I hear the crunch of snow-covered leaves
Under my rubber-souled slippers.
With coffee on the stove inside
I know today will be a good day.
