Another Sleepless Night

by ·

8/7/2017
Another sleepless night haunts me.
Voices squawk, they talk and taunt me,
one step closer to terminal pause.
     always resenting,
     never dissenting—
Eyes glossed over in weary loss.

Why does sleep abandon me
when I need it most?
     You feed on fears
     and drink my tears,
a satiated host.

My mind won't rest a single second.
It wanders, runs and leaps.
     We speed away
     to the light of day,
you rob me of my dreams.

A single, beautiful, restful moment
is all I ask of you.
     a single request
     I behest,
before we see dawn's amber hue.
