A Lie

I think I’m fine
But am I really lying
To myself
And those around me?

Caged within
An outward grin
And all
Which remains unseen

I proudly parade
My endless charade
A mask
Of teeth that sheen

A look so chic
If eyes could speak
D'you hear
Trumpets that gleam?

Or would the truth sound out
A muted shout
To all
Who played naive?

See, inward I know
The lights dimmed low
A lie
It always has been
